“The greatest satisfaction of coaching is not in winning. It’s in the athletes believing that they can win”

This is My Story
I started running track in the 5th grade, but my career did not really take off until high school, when I was one of the premier runners from1979-1983 under Bill Lewis, father to Olympians Carl and Carol Lewis. As a JFK Gryphon, our 4x400m relay team was ranked 3rd in the nation, running a 3:18.3. What made it even more special was that our team consisted of 3 sophomores (I was one) and a junior. Our team later went on to win the United States High School Olympic Invational in front of over 10000 people with myself running the anchor leg. Myself and my teammates often competed against colleges as high school runners under the coaching of Bill Lewis, who instilled in us that we could accomplish anything
I was noticed at the Penn Relays by the coach of West Point and later went on to run a 47 second quarter mile for Army until my sophomore year, when an injury ended my running career.
Between the years of 1998 and 2000, I volunteered to coach the 400m runners at Lakeland High School in Central Florida, taking them to the Florida State HS championships every year.
After leaving Florida for Chicago in 2004, I would not coach again until 2014, when I volunteered to coach at Oswego HS as a 400m coach. Since coaching at Oswego HS, we have broken and set numerous records in the 400m and 1600m relay and I have had runners make state appearances for both years. My runners have gone on to run for Army, University of Tulsa and even compete as a walk-on player for the Florida State Seminoles football team.
My philosophy is that by building an athlete that has a strong sense of team, family and strong character values can greatly help that athlete achieve anything both on and off the track.
I believe that winning begins with training, but really is the result of a strong sense of belief in one’s self and abilities. I am an old school coach that feels as if character, discipline, and the belief that you can accomplish anything will trump natural talent every time.
I have two wonderful boys, one whom is an All-Conference Triple Jumper for Oswego High School and a lovely wife of 10 years, Liset. I am also the Founder and CEO of the V2M2 Group, Inc., a digital marketing agency located in Chicago and Oswego. Additionally, my time is spent as an Adjunct Professor of Internet Marketing at Aurora University as well as serving on two advisory boards for Rasmussen College and a non-profit.
